Yoga- A Way Of Life
Yoga, meaning union in Sanskrit, is an ancient spiritual practice, that originated in India. It's main focus is to achieve a state of mental & physical balance through meditation & various stretching exercises known as yoga postures or asana.
Starting yoga/ yoga tips:
- Talk to your doctor to make sure that practicing yoga will not worsen the conditions, you currently have.
- Start with meditation
- Use basic postures
- Always end your yoga practice with Shavasana, resting and consciously relaxing your body for 5-15 minutes.
Yoga is used as an alternative therapy for attaining mental and physical harmony. A beginner has to practice the basic yoga poses, simple meditation technique and then work their way up to specific exercises attuned for their personal requirements.
A knowledge of basic Yoga forms is helpful for the beginners. A few important forms of Yoga/ Terms are explained below:
- Patanjali systematized various yogic practices and traditions of his times in the form of treatise in his yoga sutra. While Yoga evolved as a spiritual practice, in the West it has grown popular as a form of purely physical exercise.
- Adi Shankara was the first philosopher to consolidate the doctrine of Advaita Vedanta, a sub-school of Vedanta.
- Iyengar Yoga, created by Bikram Iyengar, is a form of yoga known for its use of props, such as belts and blocks, as aids in performing asanas.
- Traditional Hatha Yoga is a complete yogic path, including moral disciplines and physical exercises.
- Tantra Yoga is a holistic approach to the study of the universal from the point of view of the individual.
- Pranayam is a set of deep breathing exercises which can lead us into meditation to heal our mind, body and spirit.
- Samadhi is a Sanskrit term for the state of consciousness induced by complete meditation.
Yoga poses:
The various poses include Lotus, Cat, Mountain and alike with the 'Lotus Position' as the basic one.
Try Yoga for incorporating a holistic approach towards life. It helps in increasing brain power, concentration and can cure serious physical ailments through special exercises and breathing techniques.
